Grades 1 - 4

 General Academic Goals

The NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) has set forth a series of guidelines and standards which I base my mathematical teaching on.  Students will be be introduced to, practice, and develop mastery in the areas of Number Sense, Geometry, Measurement, Algebra, Probability and Statistics and Problem Solving.  In addition, they will learn how to communicate about mathematics.

My goal for my students is that they leave my class with an increased understanding of mathematical concepts, greater speed and accuracy in computation, and the ability to complete higher level problem solving.  This year we will use a new math program called EnVision Math. I look forward to sharing more about this program as the year unfolds.  I am excited to be in this new position at St. Joseph School and look forward to a fun year teaching math to students in grades1 - 4.

All grades will have homework Monday through Thursday each week.  Students will bring home a Math Workbook to be used for homework and may be given additional homework to study for math facts quizzes at different points in the year.  Later in the year, students may also be assigned internet homework assignments found on the EnVision website.  Students will have access to their textbooks/daily work pages online and will be given information on how to access this.  If there is a question on the homework, it will be useful to review the day's in-class work.  If at any time a student cannot complete his or her homework due to a special family situation, please send in a note and the homework will be due the following day.
