Professional Development
Staff development is a crucial part of the continuous efforts to improve the educational program at St. Joseph School, and teachers have a wide variety of opportunities to enhance their skills. St. Joseph School encourages teachers to participate in college level courses, workshops, and seminars. Teachers attend classes during and after the teaching day. They also devote their own time to education on the weekends and during the summer.
Among other topics, teachers have been trained in the writing process, hands-on math, inquiry-based science, project-based learning, and SMART Board interactive technology applications. Teachers also attend workshops provided by the Diocese of Paterson and local public school districts. A professional library is maintained to support professional development.
