Pre-Kindergarten 4

On September 10, 2007, St. Joseph School took another step in fulfilling its mission of bringing a values-based Catholic education to more children. On that date, the school opened its doors to the first Pre-K 4 class. Pre-K 4 fulfills an important need for many families who want to start their child’s education in the school where they will experience seamless transitions between Pre-K 4, Kindergarten, and First grade. The Pre-K 4 class is limited to 15 children and is conducted under the supervision of an experienced, certified early childhood teacher and a teacher’s aide. The limited class size assures a nurturing, caring environment supporting the spiritual, emotional, social, and academic growth of each child. Just as all SJS classrooms are equipped with the latest learning technology, so too the Pre-K 4 classroom is equipped with SMART Board™ technology to enhance the learning environment.

The Pre-K 4 Program is delivered in a caring and positive atmosphere enabling children to develop a foundation for learning that will support their development throughout their years in school. The children are taught religion, math, science and language through various projects, activities, and stories to help develop their spiritual and intellectual growth. In addition, the Pre-K 4 Program is enhanced with separate classes in library, physical education, music, and conversational Spanish. St. Joseph School follows the curriculum guidelines outlined by the Diocese of Paterson and based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

The Pre-K 4 program has a range of daily end times to meet the needs of our families. Parents have the option of enrolling their child into the program from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
