The School Nurse is responsible for ensuring that student health records are current with necessary immunizations, physical exams, and that health concerns such as allergies are noted. She provides care for students who are ill or injured at school and contacts parent/guardian when necessary. Prescription and non-prescription (OTC) medications are administered providing a physician's written orders and parent's written permission are provided. General Health Information
During this flu season, a few reminders are worth some emphasis:
When children have a fever, it is recommended that they remain out of school until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours. Not only does the child feel terrible, but also early in the illness is usually when viruses are spread, quickly infecting many other students and staff.
When children have been vomiting they need time to re-nourish and replenish fluids that have been lost. Generally, at least 24 hours is needed to fully recover from a stomach flu.
If your child has a severe sore throat prompting you to make an appointment for a throat culture, please do not send your child to school. Strep throat is contagious until treated. Children who have had a throat culture should not return to school until the doctor reports a negative culture, or, if it is positive, until the student has had 24 hours of antibiotics.
