Welcome to Saint Joseph School!

Founded in 1963, St. Joseph School is a small Catholic school located in the heart of historic Mendham Borough in Morris County, New Jersey. It has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools for the past sixteen years. St. Joseph School has been recognized for its accomplishments and named as a “ Star School” by the Diocese of Paterson. The maximum enrollment is 265 children in Kindergarten through eighth grades. The student population is drawn from Mendham and many surrounding communities. There is one class per grade level. Graduating students go on to a variety of competitive Catholic, private, and public schools in the area.

As a Catholic school, the vision and purpose of St. Joseph derive from the teachings of Jesus Christ. The mission of St. Joseph School is

to spread His message of peace, hope, and love. Our foundations are not of brick and mortar, but of academic and religious values. St. Joseph School is committed to the education and development of the whole child: intellectual, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional. This commitment can be fulfilled only within an environment which is warm, positive, and supportive to the child.

The education mission of St. Joseph School encompasses four dimensions: message, community, worship, and service. As proclaimers of the Gospel message of peace, hope, and love, all that we do should reflect this in our way of life. Our faith community is strengthened and unified through prayer, Eucharistic celebrations, and religious projects. This nurturing and support moves us to direct our energies to the world. Such activities as value sharing, role modeling, and participation in various community projects, build upon the concept of social justice. Through love and service our hearts and minds turn outward to build the Kingdom of God here on earth.

For many years, St. Joseph School was administered by the Sisters of Christian Charity at Mallinckrodt Convent in Mendham. Currently, the school is staffed by a lay principal, assistant principal, and teachers, but it maintains a close relationship with the Sisters.

The school day runs from 7:30 AM to 2:15 PM and includes a full academic, spiritual, and extracurricular program. The Kindergarten runs from 9:00 AM to 2:15 PM. There are ten certified full-time teachers, a library/media specialist, and a nurse. Part-time staff includes a guidance counselor, two additional mathematics teachers, as well as computer science, art, music, physical education, and conversational Spanish teachers, and a Kindergarten aide.
